2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Whatever happened to driver engagement? it’s like it has run dry. Can’t wait for the manufacturers’ spin on this trend.

Mixture of expenses and priorities. New vehicles are expensive, people want and need more for their money. They want larger, more comfortable, takes pot holes with popping a tire or bending a rim. Easier to get in and out of. Car seat space and ease of use as well.

Motoring and carving down a canyon road is probably last on their list of things want/need, especially for working parents who commute 50 miles a day in traffic and still have to take the kids to school, practice, etc.

I always find it funny when professional auto journos who live in Manhattan and don’t actually own a car or even need to use one everyday are always surprised by the taste of the mainstream buying public.

Like it or not, the future of automobiles will look a lot like the Tesla Model X.  An electric crossover.  However, like the Telsa X, they don’t have to be boring at least.

I didn’t know Hyundai made washing machines; oddly enough, if you go to South Korea you’ll see that Samsung (maker of many home appliances) also makes cars (well, Renault does it for them, I guess) and man are they appliancey in appearance.

Hyundai and Samsung are chaebol (extremely large conglomerates) similar to keiretsu in Japan like Mitsubishi. They’re massive companies with interests in many diverse sectors such as finance, shipping, heavy industry, etc.

Mitsubishi could just up and quit making cars tomorrow  and they’d still be huge.
